2026 Hangzhou Marathon
The 2026 Hangzhou Marathon is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Huanglong Sports Center in Hangzhou. The event features two races: the full marathon (42.195 kilometers) and the half marathon (21.0975 kilometers). The total number of participants is 36,000, with 22,000 for the full marathon and 14,000 for the half marathon. The finish line of the full marathon is at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, and that of the half marathon is at the Civic Square.
The Hangzhou Marathon was founded in 1987 and is one of the oldest marathon events in China. The 2026 event was rated as a World Athletics Gold Label event and a Class A certification event of the Chinese Athletics Association. This year's Hangzhou Marathon aims to create a "most beautiful, most fragrant, most cultural, and most technological" urban running event. It focuses on "the Hangzhou Marathon for runners, the Hangzhou Marathon for the city, and the Hangzhou Marathon for the world", and comprehensively upgrades aspects such as the track, scale, registration mechanism, reward system, and technological services.

Highlight 1: Expansion of Scale and Second Round of Lottery
The scale of the 2026 Hangzhou Marathon has expanded from 32,000 participants last year to 36,000. Among them, 22,000 are for the full marathon and 14,000 for the half marathon. A second round of lottery mechanism has been added in the registration process, which starts after the first round of lottery and payment. This mechanism activates the idle quotas that were not paid for, ensuring the rights of runners to participate to a greater extent. Additionally, a dedicated registration channel for foreign runners has been added to provide a more convenient participation channel for overseas runners. The registration process opened for 24 hours, and the number of participants exceeded 200,000, with a total of 304,296 participants, setting a new record for the registration numbers of all previous Hangzhou Marathons.

Highlight 2: Linking Two World Heritage Sites
The 2026 Hangzhou Marathon route has been meticulously optimized. The 42.195-kilometer route precisely connects the West Lake and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, integrating the three cultural veins of Wu-Yue thousands of years ago, the elegant culture of the Southern Song Dynasty, and the surging culture of the Qiantang River. The route passes through more than 20 urban landmark buildings and historical sites, forming a complete narrative line of "ancient city of West Lake - cultural waterfront of Qiantang - Asian Games New City". With the route optimization, the track in the upper district has been extended by about 5 kilometers, connecting Gaogua Field, Wangjiang Park, City Balcony, and River Confluence, and crossing the Hangzhou Gate, Asian Games Three Buildings, and Big and Small Lotus.

Highlight 3: Comprehensive Upgrade of Rewards
The reward system of the 2026 Hangzhou Marathon has been refreshed. The event retains the record-breaking award, the ranking award for Chinese athletes, and the rewards in the team competition. At the same time, it focuses on supporting local athletes, increasing the total bonus for Chinese athletes from 480,000 yuan in the past to 712,000 yuan. Among them, the award for breaking the record by Chinese athletes has increased from 25,000 yuan to 60,000 yuan, helping domestic runners break through their limits and set new records. The comprehensive upgraded reward system aims to stimulate the competitive spirit of the runners.

Highlight 4: Smart Technology and Warm Service
This year's Hangzhou Marathon focuses on the goal of "most beautiful, most fragrant, most cultural, and most technological", and comprehensively upgrades in terms of technological application and service guarantee. In terms of technology, relying on the digital economy advantages of Hangzhou, smart applications such as automatic number distribution and AI video have been implemented; in collaboration with the police and health departments, a new scenario of AED combined with unmanned aerial vehicle comprehensive medical support system and AI traffic management robot has been deployed. In terms of service, this event provides sports vests for male runners and sports T-shirts for female runners, and launches warm measures such as delayed check-out for runners' hotels; it also collaborates with various scenic spots and cultural and tourism business districts to launch Hangzhou Marathon-exclusive cultural and tourism discount activities, and continues to provide free subway services.
