Since its establishment in 2011, the Lanzhou Marathon has grown from 1,800 participants gathering at Dongfanghong Square in the first edition, and has advanced step by step -获评 the National Marathon Gold Standard Event in 2012， the International Athletics Federation Bronze Standard Event in 2013， and successfully upgraded to the International Gold Standard Event in 2018， completing the transition from a regional event to an international benchmark. Now， Lanzhou Marathon has become the only， top-level World Athletics Gold Standard and China Athletics Association Gold Standard "double gold event" in the northwest region. The event strictly adheres to the standards of World Athletics Gold Standard events and International A1-level events， demonstrating the international level of the event and the comprehensive strength of the city of Lanzhou.

The Lanzhou Marathon race route is set along the "100-kilometer Yellow River Scenic Line"， connecting landmarks such as Zhongshan Bridge， Baota Mountain， the Yellow River Mother Sculpture， and the Lanzhou Olympic Sports Center. The Yellow River's surging flow and the Silk Road civilization are integrated into every step of the run. The race route is located in the 1，520-meter sub-alpine area， with unique competitive conditions. Runners running along the banks of the Yellow River can not only immerse themselves in the beautiful scenery and profound cultural heritage of Jin Cheng， but also challenge themselves on the sub-alpine race route.

To actively respond to the eager expectations of runners for participation， the 2027 Lanzhou Marathon has expanded the number of participants， adding 3，000 seats. The total number of participants will reach 36，000， with the full marathon increasing from 25，000 to 27，000 and the half marathon increasing from 8，000 to 9，000. This expansion is a response based on the first implementation of staggered start times and successful organizational tests in 2026， aiming to resolve the situation of hot registration， tight quotas， and low signing rates in previous editions.

Over the past decade of running， public viewing and cheering have become the hallmark color of the Lanzhou Marathon， with a passionate and enthusiastic event atmosphere leading the way in China for many years. The Lanzhou Marathon has been consistently given the title of "atmosphere ceiling" by runners. Not only has it polished the city IP of "Jin Cheng is also very beautiful"， but it has also continuously released the economic effect of the event - according to the official economic and social benefit assessment report of the 2025 Lanzhou Marathon， during the event， the city received 1.3275 million tourists， and the direct consumption income generated by the event exceeded 792 million yuan， with a communication value of 1.5389 billion yuan.
