2026 Taiyuan Marathon
The 17th Taiyuan Marathon, scheduled for September 27, 2026 (Sunday), will start at 7:30 a.m. at the May 1st Square in Taiyuan City. The event features two competition events: the full marathon (42.195 kilometers) and the half marathon (21.0975 kilometers). The total number of participants is 40,000, with a limit of 18,000 for the full marathon and 22,000 for the half marathon. The participants of both events will follow different routes, passing through landmark sections such as Yingze Street, Yingze Bridge, and Binhe West Road, and finally arriving at Changxing North Street (south of the Jinyang Lake International Exhibition Center).
As a World Athletics Gold Label event and a China Athletics Association A1 category event, the 2026 Taiyuan Marathon, with the theme of "The Full Moon of Mid-Autumn Festival, Taiyuan Marathon Unites", has comprehensively optimized and upgraded in aspects such as the incentive system, runner services, and cultural expression. The total number of participants for this event reached 104,228, setting a new record for the event's appeal. Four major highlights are particularly worthy of attention.

Highlight One: The first special award for Chinese athletes, expanding the incentive system
The incentive system of the 2026 Taiyuan Marathon has undergone a major upgrade. The first "Marathon Chinese Athlete Special Award" has been established. This award aims to help domestic road running talents grow and pay tribute to Chinese high-level athletes. The top eight Chinese athletes can receive a prize, with the highest prize amounting to 60,000 yuan. At the same time, the "Breaking the Chinese Athlete Meeting Record Award" has been significantly increased to 30,000 yuan (the current Taiyuan Marathon Chinese meeting record is 2 hours 10 minutes 12 seconds). For mass runners, the top 100 participants in the full marathon and half marathon can receive ranking bonuses, allowing more hardworking runners to gain honors. From elites to the general public, from international to domestic, it covers the honors and incentives of different levels of runners.

Highlight Two: "Fast Track" Re-Upgrade, Ensuring Smooth Experience with Zone-Based Starting and Timing
The Taiyuan Marathon track has always been known for its "fastness". In 2025, 3,988 full marathon runners and 4,826 half marathon runners set personal best times in the Taiyuan Marathon. In 2026, the classic route of the Taiyuan Marathon remains smooth and scenic, starting from the wide Yingze Street, extending along the beautiful Binhe East and West Roads, and then closely following the Fen River. In September, Taiyuan has clear skies and pleasant weather suitable for long-distance running competitions, providing excellent external conditions for the runners to achieve good results. The event continues to use the "Zone Start" and "Timing Start" methods, with participants divided into assembly areas based on their personal best times, bringing a smooth and orderly starting experience to the runners.

Highlight Three: The Twelve-Year Zodiac Medal Series Comes to a Successful Conclusion, Cultural Products Pay Tribute to Three Jinan Culture
The 2026 Taiyuan Marathon coincides with the successful conclusion of the twelve-year zodiac medal series. The design inspiration for the Horse Year zodiac medal comes from one of the "Eight Scenes of Ancient Jinan" - "Tusang God Pine". The full marathon medal is gold-plated, and the half marathon medal is fog silver. This event introduces a series of cultural products that deeply integrate Three Jinan culture and the spirit of road running - Horse Year zodiac badges, figurines, and "Twelve Zodiac Commemorative Plates", etc. The committee also prepared a set of collector's edition medal frames (including a replica commemorative medal) for the "Loyal Fan" runners who have participated in the event for twelve consecutive years, paying tribute to the twelve-year companionship.

Highlight Four: Four Thousand Participants + One Hundred Thousand Registrations, The Gold Label Taiyuan Marathon's Influence Continues to Rise
The total number of participants for the 2026 Taiyuan Marathon is 40,000, with 18,000 for the full marathon and 22,000 for the half marathon. As of the end of registration, this event has received 104,228 runners, setting a new record for the event's appeal and brand influence. The Taiyuan Marathon was founded in 2010 and has been successfully held for 16 times. As a World Athletics Gold Label event and a Class A1 event of the Chinese Athletics Association, this event has cumulatively attracted over 700,000 participants from 40 countries and regions (including online races). Forty thousand runners gathered at the banks of the Fen River, joining together on the Mid-Autumn Festival to enjoy a running feast that combines speed and sentiment.
